Glossary of Events & Terms
Warner Annual Fund (WAF) – WAF represents a combination of the Teacher Fund (enabling smaller class sizes and avoiding split grade classes) and the Enrichment Fund (which allows Warner to pay for teaching assistants in each classroom, a science teacher, an art specialist, a computer lab with instructor, and a physical education coach, among other benefits). In order to support these programs and services (which are not provided by LAUSD), each family is asked to make an annual donation. The Warner Annual Fund drive is the school’s most significant fundraiser. The goal is to have 100% family participation.
Book Fair – Twice during the school year, Warner hosts a book fair in the auditorium. Warner receives a percentage of the sales of the books. Kids may visit the book fair during the school day or with parents before and after school. The Book Fair is traditionally held in connection with the Back-to-School event in the fall and Open House in the spring.
Cafeteria – The school sells snacks and lunch daily (breakfast is not served). Lunch consists of a choice of two entrées and a beverage for $2.25. Snack is available during recess for $1.75. A monthly menu will be available online at www.warnerwave.com or https://achieve.lausd.net/cafela. Children in kindergarten are escorted to the cafeteria and assisted in purchasing their lunch.
Halloween Haunt - Parent-run community celebration held on a Sunday before Halloween. The event includes food, games, crafts, and more! Parents from each classroom volunteer for a shift and work at a booth. ALL families are expected to work a shift. Wristbands or tickets for all of the attractions can be purchased in advance or at the event.
Open House – Warner parents are invited to an early evening exploration of the school. Come visit your child’s classroom and see his/her wonderful projects and work to date.
Prospective Parents Day – We showcase Warner to families considering Warner for next fall. The event includes a presentation by teachers, administrators and parents. Parent tour guides provide tours. One is held in the fall and one in the spring.
Spring Gala & Auction – This is a wonderful Warner community event held in the spring. An adults-only evening fundraiser, it includes a dinner and silent and live auction.
